Without War

How different do you think the novel Bless Me, Ultima, would be if war not mentioned?  How do you think life would be different if there were no wars?  Use textual support from the novel in your answer.

The story's meaning would definitely be changed. there would be less conflict with how the town was effected by the war. The town would not be so hurt and some tensions would not as high in the town. With so many people from their town dying people really were going through a lot. To add to that all the curses going around putting a war would definitely bring more tension.

If war were not mentioned in the novel, reader would not be able to see how war affects people. Without war, Antonio’s brothers would not leave and have traumatized minds. Without war, their father would have his dream fulfilled. He can “gather his sons around him and move westward to the land of the setting sun, to the vineyards of California” (Anaya 14). Without war, the people in town would not be so sad, and the men would not be scattered “like tumbleweeds by the winds of war” (Anaya 3). The town would be a peaceful place. War ruins everything in the process of gaining power. If the world is free of wars, no one would have to weep for the casualties, to be susceptible to harms, to become cold-blooded.

If war wasn't mentioned in the novel, Antonio wouldn't have questioned his faith as much. Much of his questioning and confusion was revolved around his brothers and their travels to Rosie's and war. Antonio's brothers find out that there is more out there than just the llano, that they don't have to stay at home. But Antonio wants to continue his mothers dream by becoming a priest.
Life would be different for everybody if there was no war in this world. If we could solve conflicts verbally instead of physically, this world would be a much better place. It would be a better environment for Americas future generations to grow up in.

If there was no war in the novel "Bless Me, Ultima," many things would be greatly different. Without war, Antonio would not have been subjected to the death of Lupito at such a young age, which effected him greatly as he was growing into an adult. Lupito lost his mind because "the war made him crazy" (Anaya 16). If there was no war in the novel, the Lupito would not have been killed and Antonio's entire life might have been changed because he would never have experienced seeing death at such a young age when he was not prepared for it.

Without war in the novel the story would be completely different. Antonio's brothers would not have gone off to fight. If that had not happened They would not have been "giv[en] guns" and been told to kill other people. When they came back they had lost the the small amount of innocence they had left. War also had a great effect on Lupito. It "made him crazy" which was the ultimate cause of his death(Anaya 16).

Characters would have gone drastically different ways.
